Asaff Harel MD MSc

I am a licensed neurologist sub-specializing in the treatment of multiple sclerosis and related neuro-immunological conditions such as neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and neurosarcoidosis. I currently practice full-time at the Northwell MS Center, both at Lenox Hill Hospital on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and at the Northwell Neuroscience Institute in Manhasset, New York. I know that patients with multiple sclerosis and related disorders face many challenges, and I am devoted to help people overcome those challenges by providing support, information, compassionate care, and state-of-the-art treatment.

I completed my undergraduate and master’s degree work at Brandeis University. After one year working in research at the NIH, I started medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where I joined the Gold Humanism Honor Society and was awarded a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship.  After medical school, I completed both neurology residency and a multiple sclerosis/neuroimmunology fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital, funded by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Institutional Clinical Training Award.

I strive to provide the highest level of care to my patients, both in the clinic and by furthering scientific knowledge through research. I received the National Institutes of Health Clinical Research LRP Award for continued involvement in research, and have been involved in several research projects and clinical trials related to multiple sclerosis.
